Welcome to the Rio Class of 76 Blog
As our list grows I felt that having a blog for all to share was a good idea, so welcome and have fun!
We want to hear from you! In order to add your comment to the bottom of the blog please do the following:
Click on the comments button next to where it says... 45 comments (or what ever number of blogs posted)
This will take you to the post your blog page. On the right you will see 3 buttons. Pick the blog button if you have a blogger account, pick the other button if you want your comment to have your name at the top of your comment. There will be a drop down if you pick this button where you can type in your name. The last choice is the anonymous button. If you don't want your name at the top of your blog you can post anything and no one will know you said it!
Finally, click submit.
We really want to hear from you. Tell us what you are doing. Is there someone you want to find out about? If we continue to ask and talk it could perhaps get us connected with yet one more alumni! If your savvy... you can even post your picture... but let's not worry about that! Have fun. Can't wait to hear from you!

Don’t miss this one, whatever you do!
And the fund just keeps on coming!!!! If i could only get some rest!
this is a test of the anonymous blogging system. If this had been a real blog you would be reading somethin worth while.
another in the endless tests being performed to make sure this works
Hey all,
Sorry I can't join you, but my October is a non-stop hell, and the only weekend I have to spend with my wife and daughter happens to coincide with the reunion. Hope y'all have fun.
Did you say the guy in the photo is Bob Redford? He looks so young and handsome for his age! So nice of him to make an appearance!
But do they allow platform shoes on sailboats?
Ok it is 12:30 and i am heading in early as i have to fly back to Minnesota in the morning. I spoke to many people this evening and almost every one said they are coming including Dean Dayton! He is going to call many of the facaulty from our days and invite them as well.
Last evening I spoke with Betty Walthall in idaho and she was so excited to hear about the reunion she immediatly jumped online and bought her ticket. On a very personal note this process has benn very fulfilling for me. I have not spoken to many of the people I am speaking to now for 30 years and it feels GREAT to reconnect!. I truely hope that everyone who comes to this fantastic party leaves with a great feeling of community in their heart (not to mention lots of good food and libation).
Well off to the sack........

Mark, Are you taking any song requests for the party? 70's hits from 'back in the day'? (BTW 'Rhiannon' was a hit after we graduated from Rio) Any former KRIO dj's recall the greatest hits? Steeley Dan, Bad Company, Zepellin, Seals and Crofts, Cher (ha ha),Eagles!, Elton John, Doobie Bros, etc. Requests, anyone, for Reunion "XXX"?
I have over 50 cd's of music from the 70"s I am programming for the reuinon. I have been blown away listing to some of these songs again. It will really set the tone for the weekend!
Hello All!
John Browning was in Redwood City at the time of the ten year reunion
Linda Galapaga may have graduated early with the class of 1975? I couldn't locate Pete Evans during the 10 year reunion planning phase.
Tom Witt was in New York during the ten year reunion and he coordinated the twenty year reunion
Couldn't locate Maggie Hackett at the ten year reunion planning, but there is an M. Hackett in the phone book at 344-7459 if you wish to try that. Couldn't find Molly Magruder at the ten year reunion, but there is an M. Magruder in the phone book 483-4858 if anyone needs to try that. I was unable to locate Becky Smith at the ten year reunion. I think the Boehrer that graduated with us was Mary.
I think her sister was Debbie and in the class of 1977. Did they have a brother? There is a David Boehrer in the phone book:638-8157.
I was unable to locate Karl Zeff at the ten year reunion, but there is a Ken Zeff in the pnone book at 972-9830 if anyone needs to try it.
Have a good weekend! Kari Uhlman AKA - Karen Muschetto
Maybe someone who still lives in the area or is in touch with the school's sports program can answer this. I just saw an announcement about Rio's first home game. I'm simply wondering whether the school finally wised up and reoriented the field, or is still that monument to stupidity which ran east-west and blinded us every evening at the end of practice?
Nope, football field not reoriented. Tennis courts are supposed to be though.
Go here to look at the plan.

Well it is The evening of the 12th and we are at 100 partayers! Today the printer mailed the postcards for the reunion. We have about a week and a half to go until I have to let Arden Hills know the final number. I am confident we will get to 200 by that time.
Call all you friends and get them in gear for this great party!!!
Ladies- just what will you be wearing? The guys have it easy with Hawaiian shirts but beach dresses in October? What will you wear
1 am Thursday. I spoke with executive chef at Arden Hills today. He will be making samples of the menu for me to try to make sure everything is just right for Friday evening.
I want to thank everyone who has expressed gratitude for the work I have been doing. It means a lot! I really only know one way to do things and that is by giving it everything I've got. My wish for this weekend of ours is that we re-bond with those who helped shape who we are today. The years we spent together are some of the most important years in determining not what we do but how we do it. Maybe I am just speaking for myself but I would venture a guess that many of us can look at our time together and see how it helped mold the humanity in each of us.
As a parent now and watching the process unfold from a different angle I find myself so grateful for the experiences I had when I was young.
Coming together again, all these years later reminds me of all the great times we had as a class, as friends and as a community. I hope that those memories help inspire me and those of you who find yourself in a similar place in life to cherish how special your children and their experiences can and will be to them.
No I have not been drinking, just working late again and reflecting on the whole process of it all.
Buono Notte
Mark
I hear you about the unending search for a tropical themed dress! All I can find are anything other than tropical. GO NUDE!!!! Remember those streakers?? Anyway I'll get as close as I can to a beach theme outfit.Heck, it's going to snow here this weekend! No matter what we wear we'll have great time.
Does anyone know where Linda Forester is??? I heard she was in Texas at one point. What about Linda Rodgers?? I hope to see both those Lindas... I'll call if anyone can find a number???
Vickie Steinke
Oh Back in the day of riding through the halls packing lockers on Friday evenings for the fun Friday night.
Somethings NEVER change.
We need some wheel chairs and such for the homecoming alumni float! Let us know if you can help.
Thanks for the info Jeff
While I was not a subscriber to the Goldfarb Freedman Friday "locker drop" (early signs of enterpreneurial talent?), it reminded me of how cheeky our class was to publish "Raider in the Liquor Locker" in the school paper with recipes for cocktails! I believe Steve Van Epps was the "columnist" and it had to be dropped because of parent complaints!
I can't believe how many names and faces are coming back reading all this stuff. While I've been awol at previous reunions I would've loved to come to this one, but the 6th is my wedding anniversary and there are Big Plans. Hope to see you all at the 35th- great work, Mark- I'll be thinking of you all.
Unfortunately our classmate Toby Browning will not be able to attend (he'll be in Europe) but I wanted to let all of you know how prominent his voice is in television here in Southern California (and I'm sure in other national TV markets) He is the voice of the LA Lakers, lead intro to several of the local news affiliates "Eyewitness News with Jeff Michaels..." He does many commercials, film trailers. I recognized his voice over the years and confirmed it was him. (No surprise about his career path!) He's come such a long way from his formative days at KRIO!!
Gene Hamilton where are you? Christine Fay wants you to come! Why haven't I seen Gus Argus' name on the list of party goers??? Anyone have info on them? I called Libby Donner and she is leaning at coming. Still waiting for her to give me Linda Forester's phone or her mine! I hope they both come. I think Libby said that Linda is in touch with Tammy, Judy Blue Eyes! Call me if you want Libby's phone. Anyone that wants to say hello... 805 427-2310 that's my cell.
xxoo Vickie
Well it has been a stressfull couple of day's with some of the details of our reunion. But all is good now.
Robert Montes said he is getting lots of calls for reservations Sat. evening.
I am so happy to see so many of us are really getting geared up for this party.
Need to get at least a few hours sleep.
Mark
I want to call people. I hope Mark posts some names and numbers on the web site so we can all call.
The list from the 25th reunion as frunished by Class Encounters is on our website at http://www.rio76.com. click on the most recent class list in pdf format. It will download to your computer.
Mark,
Why do you keep putting my picture on your bloggings?
jeff
Mark, you may not remember me, but I am the “Miss Smith” in the favorite teacher’s picture on the link to the blast to the past. I was the RA’ETTE advisor and PE teacher from 1972-1978. I’m currently living in Springfield, VA, just 12 miles south of Washington DC. I’m still in education…the principal of Saratoga Elementary School, Fairfax County Public Schools. To let you know a little more about me, I’m married (almost 29 years) , have a daughter, Sandi, and a son, Chris. I make it back to Sacramento at least once a year to visit with my mom and friends. I would really love to make it to the reunion…something that I’m considering. Please share my email address with anyone who wishes to write me…pat.conklin@fcps.edu. I would really love to hear from former RA’ETTES and students.
Pat Smith Conklin
I received the 30th reunion postcard in the mail about 2 weeks ago. I'm trying to juggle my schedule around, but it'll be a last-minute decision. I already had another San Diego-to-Sacramento trip booked at Thanksgiving which includes the Annual Soccer Alumni game. If I don't make the reunion, have fun, and I'll see you soccer players and fans Thanksgiving Day (11:00 Rio soccer field).
Jeff Wollrabe
Well only one week to go. It's midnight here in NY and I am actually going to get to bed early. Most everythig is ready for the 6th.
I spoke with Vickie a bit ago and the decorations sound like they will be great! I really thank her for her vision on what we need to make the room look warm and welcoming.
After a very long and drawn out search and calling every Cozzens in Ca. I actually was able to reach Ann Cozzens in Dallas today via email. She most likely will not make it, although I am not giving up yet, but wanted to extend her love to eveyone and is sorry she may not be there.
If anyone has a personal conection with Pier Schwartz please call her and ask her to come.
How about Chris Seastrom? Mike Mc Govern, and the list goes on. Please call those who you do not see the list and get them to come.
I can not express my gratitude to all those who have been so helpful and supportive during this project. I really feel that just the exercise of putting this together has brought me so much closer to many of my old friends and classmates.
I will be in Sac on Wed evening. My cell is 845 853 4761 if anyone needs to get a hold of me.
I can not wait to see you all!!!
Lots of love,
Mark
Mark,
It takes a lot of time and effort to organize an event like this.
THANKS!
Hey Mark,
Any chance there will be nametags with our Rio photo on it for us to wear at the reunion? (Just in case SOME of us no longer resemble our 18 year old versions?) Unfortunately I couldn't book the face lift in time... ha ha
Christine Fay and Vickie are making up name tags using the picts. from our senior year book. They are doing the entire class and deserve a big hand for the work that is taking!!!!!
Ok no face lift cool, breast augmentation, tummy tucks, lipo suctions, hair implants, and the list goes on..... while I am sure some ahev chosen to employ the medical arts to keep up their youthful appearence others, and that is great!, others like myself just continue to act like we used to look!
As in all aspects of life when we celebrate the wonders that life has bestowed upon us, the always-present sorrows of life are just off in the distance. So it is that I pass along the news that while we will all be celebrating our lives past and present together this coming weekend a fellow alumnus of Rio, Doug Wood, moved on from the physical plane this morning Friday the 29th of Sept. to the next phase of this wondrous path of life.
While none of us know what is just over the hill top ahead I feel that there is comfort in the revalidation that while we are here on this blue planet of ours we should live life to the fullest and be grateful for everyday we have to spend with our families and friends.
Doug was a very kind and wonderful person who I am sure was also a great husband and father. It is a tribute to him that he leaves behind a legacy that will endure though his children’s years. I wish his wife and children all the peace that can be theirs and the strength to life to it’s fullest.
So, fellow 76’ers, raise your glasses high and remember Doug Wood, if you knew him. Toast to his life as I am sure he would want you to. Then take a big long drink of the life you have been given and give thanks that we have this joyous opportunity to come together again and be one!

Hi everyone,
We are in the midst of printing and putting the name badges together for Friday night. There may be a few of you from other classes or just weren't present for that wonderful picture day. Possibly on the other side of the levy? I took the liberty of choosing some extra photos from the Tesoro to bring Friday night. I also have a bunch of pictures from different parties and graduations that I will bring along. I think I may even have photos from a couple of the last reunions. Thank God our children won't be there to witness this. If you have any photos you would like to share, bring them along.
Mark, you are awesome! I am really impressed with all the hard work you are putting forth. I know we are all going to have a blast.
Christine Fay (no name change here)
Well, 7 days from now and some of us may be looking for the aspiran while some of us are looking for local Churches. :) Such an exciting time and I am looking forward to saying hello to so many that help shape my life. What a grand time we had at Rio and know we get to live it over once again. At least for a short time. While these thoughts can cause anxiety, we should all put any worries aside and live this time just as we lived our high school days. With passion, enthusiasm and care for eacth other. At least we have the know how to live this way today, no? Well I am very excited and I look forward to all oir time together. I will be in Saon Tuesday as I still have two brothers and my Father there. My address is PO Box 620141, Woodside, Ca. 94062-0141. Woodsideis in the Bay Area 10 miles south of SFO. MY CELL IS 415-720-0098 Feel free to give me a ring.
John "JD" Dannenfelser / Paul "GUS" Argys is coming as well as Steve Childers is trying hard, Keith Stallcup & wife, Gill Pegram is trying as well. Love and PEACE to all and thank you for all of us who are working hard to make this happen. Yes, that includes you, Goldfarb!!!!! :))
Hi Everyone,
I am preparing the name tags and I need photos of the following people: Linda Snook, Jodi Mulliniks, Jim Matranga, Melanie Souza, Andy Souza, Maria Parker, Christine Amos, Byron or Bryon Bayer, Patti Berglund, Marie Biondi, Jeff Freedman, Mary Eddy, Peter Hartman, John Henning. I need photos that are 1-1/2" x 2". I can't find them in the yearbook.
Also, if you have any photos of those that have passed on, please bring them with you. We will have a memorial table for them.
Thanks so much!
Christine Fay

Hi Christine,
My maiden name in the yearbook is
Chris Condon. I'm in the '76 yearbook along with the other Senior class portraits next to Dean Compoginis. Hey Dean, why aren't you coming to the reunion? Anyway, thank you for all your effort in creating the name tags
I can't tell you where any of them are, but the Hoskins are quadruplets: Sarah,Katie,Maggie and Paul. Remember?
Hey I just read that Doug Woods died on September 29th. I am so saddened by this. He was such a golden boy and all around great person. I understand he had been battling brain cancer for two years. We seem to lose the best sometimes--the younger generations have a lot to live up to.
Linda Rodgers
Will pictures from the reunion be shared and available to upload or download from any particular site?

Hey Mark
Fantastic Reunion. Loved every minute. Put to rest many ghosts from high school and happily created new or renewed friendships.
Bob and are are up for 2008 -- Given dollar and date situation. Am assuming this is a Kid- Free Cruise??? If Kid friendly - fine with us too. My vote is for Mexico/ Caribbean locations due to travel time to the ship. Please post what your plans are when you solidify. (let me know if you need volunteers -- always wanted to be a travel agent)
Take care, Get some rest, and Be PROUD -- you deserve it!!!
Mary Beekman Bergen
can't wait for the pictures to share with family and friends of my highschool kindred spirits.
Hola from Cabo,

Knock yourselves out!
Mark
Mark, Thank you for providing a place for people to post pictures and also thank you to those that posted them. It has been great fun browsing through them. I hope the others that took pictures will post theirs as well. Chuck (Himes), are you going to post your pictures...would be great to see!
Was there another web site announced at the reunion for checking out pictures? I thought I heard an announcement of some sort, but due to back ground noise it was difficult to understand what was really said. If there is yet another site to check out for pix, could someone respond with the site address? This was such a great reunion. Thanks again to those that invested so much time and effort to make it possible.
